Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there I do
not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I
am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in
the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush. Of quiet birds in circled flight, I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I
am not there; I did not die. You're a friend Forever: Lesley Marwick |

The first time I met Jeremy was when he started dating my sister Andrea. That was a good 12 years ago and they were both still in high school. However, I only really got to know Jeremy when he became a member of our Pipe Band, learning how to play the practice chanter and then moving onto playing the Tenor Drum and Bass Drum. Having Jeremy around, you where always guaranteed to laugh and have a great time. He had a great sense of humor and you could always count on him finding the “funny” in any kind of situation. He always wanted to make the people around him happy. His answer to everything was always ‘cool’ and ‘sweet’ and who can forget his South Park phase, where he was always quoting phrases and quirks from the TV programme South Park. There was a time in Jeremy’s life that, I felt, he was searching, looking for his place or his niche where he could grow and learn and show everyone his true worthiness. I remember him working with his good friends Nicole and Michael at Western Union Money Transfers, working with Uncle Ken as a painter, moving up to Johannesburg for a while to try his skills there, working at The Body Shop and of course, his time working at The Adult Shop. Definitely a varied and colorful career!!! I remember him chatting to me about his aspirations, how he wanted to study and better himself. However, I think it was when he started to work for Brett and Tracey at PWS Stationery, that he eventually found a place to settle, where he could grow and learn and show his true worthiness. We have so many good memories of Jeremy, many of them on our trips up country with the pipe band to compete in competitions. Jeremy and his partner in crime, Tony, thought nothing of keeping us up all hours with their various shenanigans. Some of our memories are closer to home, one being at one of our favorite haunts (in the good old days that is) at Fox ‘n Hound, on a karaoke night where Jeremy and his good friend Michael decided to give us a rendition of ‘Lemon Tree’. I would not have been surprised if they had decided to become Rock Stars, they definitely had a talent for entertainment!!! All the memories we have shared with Jeremy will forever be cherished and remembered. Jeremy will live in our hearts forever. This is not the time for us to grieve his death but it’s our time to celebrate his life. He never wanted to see people cry. He wanted to make everyone happy. How he made us laugh and how good Jeremy was as a person. This is not the moment for us to shed our tears but we should all be thankful that we were given the chance to have known a man named Jeremy. Jeremy will forever be missed but I know in the right time, we will meet Jeremy again and he’ll make us laugh once more. We would like to play a tune for Jeremy on behalf of his Mother. Members of the Cape Town Caledonian PipeBand play's ‘You Raise me Up’.
